This is the heart and hub of Malvern Elementary School. A combination of the library and computer lab, the Learning Commons is a learning, research, and project space. It is the place where teachers and students come to learn, discover, and explore their curiosity. It is also where they come to find new books that will take them to exciting new places and expand their horizons. It is where they can come to work on digital projects and learn about technology.
When is the Learning Commons open?
The Learning Commons is open for student and staff use each day from 7:30am-3:30pm. It is also open for extended hours for special faculty and family programs. To learn more about these programs see our events page and make sure you check out the Malvern Elementary Website, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
Susan Hefley, Media Resource Specialist I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have degrees from Clarion University of PA and the University of Pittsburgh. I was a librarian and computer teacher at Dassa McKinney Elementary (about 1.5 hours north of Pittsburgh, a VERY rural area) for 9 years. In 2014, I moved to join my brother in Texas and became the MRS at Malvern Elementary. I love my job where I get to help students and teachers with books, reading and technology....all things I love.

Nelson, Canine Companions for Independence Puppy Malvern’s Media Resource Specialist, Susan Hefley, is a foster puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence, an organization that provides service dogs to those in need. Her puppy, Nelson, will be with her for the next year and a half and during this time will come to work with her. Students may see Nelson around the Malvern campus and we want to make them aware of how good leaders behave when he is around and how they can help to raise a hero. Nelson is an opportunity for our students to see service in action, to learn empathy, love and so much more! If you would like to learn more about Nelson or follow his adventure with Susan, please checkout his blog here.
